Downtown-Yonge BIA Music Strategy for Yonge St.

On Tuesday June 2, 2015, I attended the Downtown-Yonge BIA unveiling of its Music Strategy for Yonge St. Highlights of the BIA’s strategy include a reclamation and showcase of historic signage and an app-guided walking tour for legendary music venues such as Friar’s and Le Coq D’Or. One of the most important aspects of the strategy is the proposal to bring music incubator programs to Downtown Yonge. In partnership with Coalition Music and the City’s Economic Development & Culture Division, an Artist Management Program is set to launch in November 2015.

Toronto Music City Town Hall

On Saturday, April 25th, the City of Toronto held its first Music City Town Hall, hosted by Wavelength and held by the good folks at The Garrison. More than 200 people came out to hear Mike Tanner, Music Sector Development Officer, City of Toronto, discuss how Toronto is going to transform itself into a “music city”. But what does a “music city” mean? And can Toronto get there?
